Because the need in the community is so high, the NICA Senior Society Program was developed to provide supplementary support to Northside elders and disabled residents. In Texas, roughly 845,776 senior citizens are at risk of hunger. Texas ranks fourth in the United States for the amount of elderly who go to bed hungry. Multiple factors, such as immobility, health problems, the high expense of medications, and fixed incomes, contribute to the prevalence of hunger among older Americans. With longer life expectancies and an aging baby boomer generation, the number of older citizens experiencing hunger is projected to climb dramatically over the next two decades.
If you find yourself unable to afford basic groceries, unable to afford basic home repairs or services, or you find yourself feeling lonely and would like some companionship, please reach out to us.
Ready to give back? Do you enjoy working with the elderly? NICA wants to meet with you! If you are interested in volunteering for our Senior Society Program, please, do not hesitate to apply today.
